Renting a Car in Montenegro: The Complete Guide
Everything you need before you book — airports, documents, deposits, cross-border travel and driving tips — from a local family team in Budva, renting cars across Montenegro since 2006.
Where can I pick up my rental car?
We deliver to Tivat Airport (TIV) and Podgorica Airport (TGD), and across the coast — Budva, Kotor, Bar, Herceg Novi and Ulcinj. Airport delivery is the most popular option: your car is usually ready about 90 minutes after you ask, and faster when you book ahead. We meet you at the terminal, hand over the keys, and you're on your way.
What documents do I need?
Bring a valid driving licence, a passport or national ID, and a payment card. The minimum age is 22; younger drivers can rent with a one-time young-driver surcharge. No hidden requirements — what you see at booking is what applies.
Is there a security deposit?
For most of our cars, there is no security deposit. With the right insurance package the refundable deposit is €0, so we don't block money on your card. Lower-tier cover may carry a small excess or deposit — but it's always shown clearly before you confirm. No surprises at pick-up.
What insurance is included?
Basic cover (CDW + Third Party Liability) is included with every rental. You can upgrade to Medium or Premium for a lower excess and a €0 deposit. Every price on the site already includes all taxes and fees — that's our "no hidden fees" promise.
Can I drive to Croatia, Bosnia or Albania?
Yes. Cross-border travel to Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Albania is allowed with a cross-border fee. Just tell us your plans when booking so we prepare the Green Card and any paperwork the border requires — it makes the crossing quick and stress-free.
Is mileage unlimited? What about fuel?
Mileage is unlimited — drive the whole coast, the mountains and back without watching the odometer. The fuel policy is full-to-full: you receive the car with a full tank and return it full.
Driving in Montenegro: tolls, limits & parking
- Drive on the right; overtaking on mountain roads needs care.
- The only road toll is the Sozina tunnel (Podgorica–Bar), around €2.50.
- Speed limits: 50 km/h in towns, 80 on open roads, up to 100–130 where signposted.
- Seatbelts are mandatory and the blood-alcohol limit is very low (0.03%) — don't drink and drive.
- The Kotor–Lovćen serpentine and Bay roads are scenic but narrow — take your time.
- Old-town parking (Kotor, Budva) is limited — use the paid lots just outside the walls.
